September 2016
Dear first grade families. Can you believe it’s September already? We had a great start to the school year. We’ve been very busy getting our classroom routines and schedules. I am truly enjoying getting to know your children. We have a fabulous class! This week we will begin the third week of the curriculum. Your child will be bringing homework this week as well. Please remind them to check their backpacks each night for homework and other notes. Reading practice is very important for your child; it helps him/her to become a better reader! This week we will begin our start readers program. A list will come home with your child. For each book they read, please write it on the list. After 25 books, return the list for a star on the reading wall. At the end of the year, prizes/awards will be given for students for reading 100 books! (Decodable readers can be added to the list as well.) Contact information Please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns at [email protected] Please check your child’s book back each night for their take home folder. It contains notes from teachers, homework, and completed work. If you have not already signed up, we encourage you to do so. Book Orders This week, a scholastic book order will be sent home with your child. If you would like to purchase a book, you may send cash or a check for the exact amount. If sending a check please make the check out to “Taylor Becker.” Scholastic charges a shipping fee on checks less than $25, but if I order with my debit card, there is no shipping free regardless of the amount. You can also pay with a debit/credit card if you place an online order at scholastic.com Medical Alert! We have a couple of students this year with severe food allergies to peanuts.
